I remain a parishioner at the church where I was baptized 55 years ago, meaning I have spent well over 2,000 Sunday mornings there. As a child, my mind and my eyes tended to wander, and the stained glass windows provided both entertainment and enlightenment, as they are meant to do. Later, as I struggled to quiet my small children during Mass, I whispered the stories of the saints in those same windows to them.
A favorite window depicts St. Michael casting the fallen angels out of Heaven, as today’s alternate first reading from Revelations describes. It’s a graphic representation, even a little scary, showing the archangel poking at skeletal creatures with his sword.

Clicked to see the image and WOW! I’m going to show it to my sons – both of them are planning to dress as Saint Michael for the All Saints parade this year! Thank you for sharing it!
We love the angels over here! My son is named after Gabriel, my nephew is Rafael- we’re just missing a Michael. My son has been very into St. Michael and loves reading about him!
