I read 11 books this month but I was rather single-minded in my choices so this will be a short review! As I did last time I will sum up some thought on the TEN Patricia Cornwell books I re-read after I list them all.

Predator by Patricia Cornwell

Book of the Dead by Patricia Cornwell

Scarpetta by Patricia Cornwell

The Scarpetta Factor by Patricia Cornwell

Port Mortuary by Patricia Cornwell

Red Mist by Patricia Cornwell

The Bone Bed by Patricia Cornwell

Dust by Patricia Cornwell

Flesh and Blood by Patricia Cornwell

Depraved Heart by Patricia Cornwell

The books get longer and longer and wordier and wordier. Scarpetta grows more and more persecuted and spends less and less time at her autopsy tables. The technology gets more and more impressive and les and less interesting. Relationships fray and people who should be dead are resurrected. Scarpetta’s established history gets retconned again and again for the sake of exploring new territory.  Sometimes I don’t know why I keep reading but of course I do know–it’s the characters and that I want to see what happens to them; I want them to be happy.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

I loved this engaging and mysterious time-travel novel that was translated from the Japanese. It seemed a little uneven, almost as if two different translators worked on it, but I was sufficiently engaged and moved by it to want to read the sequels.

I promise next month’s post will have more variety!
