I read a lot of books in May 2024, but all but one of them were the free books I get from Amazon each month and read on my phone’s Kindle app. I almost always choose thrillers and after this long I am going to have a hard time remembering anything about them.
The Angry Tide by Winston Graham
Not this one, though, because this is the one hard copy book I read that month, the next in the Poldark series which I am going through very slowly, whenever my daughter remembers to bring me one from the library. Soon I will come to the books that come after the end of the show and I will have a decision to make.
The Last Party by Clare Mackintosh
There was a party. And a murder. And you will be surprised by the identity of the murderer! And there was a lake. And a surprise about someone’s parentage! As it comes back to me, I think this one was pretty good.
A Friend in the Dark by Samantha M. Bailey
Apparently this is about a digital romance and someone’s marriage is falling apart and her teenage daughter is mad at her . . . at least that is what Google says. I don’t remember any of this, I’m afraid.
The Lies Among Us by Sarah Beth Durst
This was an intriguing one. I don’t want to give too much away, but the main character cannot seem to make anyone around her notice that she even exists–literally. The mystery of why this is takes awhile to sort out.
The Alone Time by Elle Marr
Ohhh, this was creepy. Two daughters survive weeks alone in the wilderness after a plan crash. But what REALLY happened out there?
Girl, Missing by Dreda Say Mitchell and Ryan Carter
There was a lot going on in this book about a mother who returns to the town where her daughter disappeared years ago. It was far-fetched but entertaining.
The Seventh Girl by Andy Maslen
This was a serial killer mystery. I don’t remember much about it but I enjoyed it at the time.
The Stillwater Girls by Minka Kent
Now this one I do remember, about two girls who flee very primitive living conditions after the disappearance of their mother, ending up on the doorstep of a young woman who has some issues of her own. It’s a double mystery with a satisfying conclusion.
I don’t remember right this minute but I feel like I was staying in hotels or going somewhere by plane in May 2024 because that is typically when I read a lot of books on my phone. I don’t own a Kindle because I love the feel of actual books. I like to own them, and it I decide not to keep them I can put them in my Little Free Library or take them to our local used book store and get more! (It goes without saying that I spend more money than I get in trade.)
